Perceived glare from the sun behind tinted glazing: Comparing blue vs. color-neutral tints

While the influence of a glare source's spectrum on sensitivity to discomfort has been demonstrated repeatedly under electric light conditions, it not yet studied actual daylit conditions. To investigate spectral alterations sun disc perception when seen behind colored glazing, we performed cross-evaluation occupants' visual comfort in space either through blue-tinted electrochromic (EC) glazing (20 participants) or color-neutral (55 participants), having selected two types that are widely employed commercial buildings. Under both participants experienced four scenarios presenting different transmittances (from low extremely low) which was only source visible. Comparing participants' responses glare, found more often compared even though metrics would have predicted higher levels these latter cases. This indicates basically tolerated better conditions blue-colored explain our findings, considered functions previously proposed replace standard CIE V2°(λ) and applied them DGP CGI metrics. However, none adjustments made any difference consistently showed an increased shorter wavelengths, indicating its cause should be sought elsewhere. Some hypotheses formulated at end paper this regard.
